Machine Delivery & Unboxing
Master the art of machine delivery and unboxing to ensure seamless installations and prevent costly mishaps.
Prep Starts Before the Truck Arrives
Success hinges on logistics.
Before the delivery truck even parks, confirm:
Lift gate or dock height with the carrier
Reserved elevator and loading bay slots
Measure every doorway and hallway — must be at least 3" wider than the machine
Protect marble/tile with masonite sheets or sliders
Have your Certificate of Insurance ready for building staff
Do not go solo.
You’ll need:
2–3 helpers
Pallet jack, appliance dolly, 4-wheel skate
Socket set, utility knife, shrink wrap, pry bar
Tape measure, level, and smartphone (for photos)
Unbox, Inspect, Document Everything
Keep plastic wrap until the cooler is in final position
Take photos of all four corners for freight insurance
Match crate badge to your purchase order: model, serial number, voltage
Visually check for dents, cracks, trim damage
If your entryway is tight (<31"), remove the fridge door to avoid glass breakage. Post a spotter at ramps and keep inclines under 6°.
Final Placement & Power-On Protocol
Anchor with angle iron
Level front-to-back and side-to-side
Wait 2+ hours upright before plugging in (oil must settle)
Confirm GFCI 110V outlet
Remove all transit bolts & shelf locks
Run self-diagnostics and test-vend
Finish by emailing an “Install Complete” report to the property manager, with timestamped photos. This closes the loop, starts your warranty, and proves install quality.

Complete the following exercises:
1. Reflect on a recent delivery or unboxing process you were involved with. Consider what went well and what could have been improved. How could these best practices have changed the outcome? Document your thoughts and discuss them with a peer for additional insights.
2. Simulate the delivery and unboxing of a large appliance in your home or workplace. Measure doorways and pathways, prepare protective materials, and gather the necessary tools. Reflect on the challenges you encounter and how you resolved them, comparing your approach to the best practices outlined.
